Abstract: The purpose of this study was to examine the change of preservice Health and Physical Education teachers (HPE teachers)' images regarding the“HPE teacher”from the viewpoint of before and after subject teaching method courses focused on simulated class and their reflection. Participants were 124 preservice HPE teachers who took subject teaching method courses at the college. They were selected because they possess a will to be a HPE teacher. Data were collected through metaphor-making tasks. Preservice HPE teachers were asked to make metaphors regarding the“HPE teacher”. They were analyzed using KJ method. As a result, the following four points were clarified. Firstly, the amount of metaphor created by preservice HPE teachers increased from before to after subject teaching method courses. Secondly, preservice HPE teachers made metaphors as“profession”and“humanity”both before and after. Thirdly, images of HPE teacher in the pre survey were teachers who have educational affection, sports universal, friendly, scary and severe. Finally, in the post survey, preservice HPE teachers formed images of HPE teachers who are professionals to guarantee learning outcomes, perform reflective practice and teaching material research to improve their PE classes and possess various teaching methods. In addition, images of HPE teachers such as longing and respect as professional teaching was formed in post survey.
