Abstract: A career development course named ‘Women and Work’ has been offered as a required course for the first-year undergraduates of Japan Women's College of Physical Education since 2007. This is the first career development course included in the regular curriculum among the colleges of Physical Education. It aims to develop deeper awareness to work in our lives and offers an opportunity to consider possible career designs after graduation on all sides. This paper reports the result of a cell phone survey of the students' attitudes towards schoolwork at college and future careers. We conducted the survey of the first-year students who took the course in 2008 in order to find what they intended to do when entering the college, what their present attitudes are toward studies at college and occupations in future and whether any changes might take place through learning this course or not. In the survey a communication system named C-Learning was applied. Students answered questionnaires on their own cell phones in the class at the beginning and the end of the term. The results of the survey are as follows: First, the students tended to have selected the college after careful consideration to their future. Second, most of them generally contented with their college life and show earnest studying attitudes. However, the survey showed that among them there was a tendency to waver in their decision about the future career which they had when entering the college and feel some difficulties in trying to connect their academic career with vocational career in future. The same survey will be made in 2009 and compare the results with tendencies of the students in 2008. In addition, we intend to let the students be aware of the close connection between the future life planning and the present schoolwork at college.
